It seems fitting that the Phantom who sang about the ?Angel of Music,? is now going to sing to help Musical Angels. David Gaschen, who starred in The Phantom of the Opera more than 1,500 times on Broadway, will sing songs from The Phantom of the Opera at the second annual Vivace Masquerade Ball Saturday, Oct. 13, from 6-10 p.m. at the Frisco Discovery Center.
He?ll be accompanied by soprano Jacquelyn Lengfelder?and pianist Gustavo Tolosa, the founder of Musical Angels, a non-profit which seeks to uplift and empower hospitalized children with the gift of free musical lessons for ages 6 and older at Children?s Medical Center, Our Children?s House at Baylor, Medical City and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
The evening will also feature dinner, a fashion show, additional music by RAAG Rhythm Indian orchestra and The Frisco Jazz Band, dancing a silent auction and artist Rolando Diaz, who will create a painting inspired by the music as it plays that will be auctioned off for the cause.
I was very impressed with Musical Angels after writing about them in a Healthy Living story about the amazing benefits of musical therapy. I must add that after returning from a trip to the hospital in California where I saw my father feel relief from pain while a remarkable flautist played ?Greensleeves,? ?Auld Lang Syne? and other ballads that he loved, I am an even greater believer in the healing powers of music. The flautist?s name? And no, I am not making this up: Angel.
Tickets ($60 for adults, $20 for kids 4-12) are available online or by calling 972-302-5093.
