Miami (Fla.) is expected to receive a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA within the next 72 hours, sources told CaneInsider.com.
The university will have up to three months to respond to allegations made by the NCAA regarding the athletic department?s involvement with convicted Ponzi schemer, Nevin Shapiro. At that time, Miami officials will go before the NCAA then await the organization?s decision.
Miami can elect which portions of the NOA it will release to the public because it is a private institution.
The investigation involved the football program, as well as men?s and women?s basketball.
The football team qualified for the ACC championship game this fall, but elected for the second consecutive year to not participate in postseason play as a way of getting ahead of the penalties that are on the way.
And like the football team last year, the basketball team has suspended multiple players who may have been connected to alleged impermissible benefits, including payment for travel to both recruits and their family members.
Shapiro, a former Miami booster, alleged in a Yahoo! Sports report in August 2011 that he provided a wide range of financial benefits and perks to dozens of recruits, current players and former players dating back a decade.
The NCAA investigation began in 2011.
Coach Al Golden said in November that he has already begun to consider potential scholarship reductions during the Hurricanes? recruiting efforts and doesn?t plan to use his full allotment of available scholarships.
