Thanksgiving is a time to spend with family and friends. With delicious food cooking in the oven and on the stove, accidents can happen, so it is important to take extra safety measures in order to have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.
At Gerstad Builders, we want you to have an accident-free Thanksgiving, so here are some fire prevention tips to help you enjoy your holiday:
- Make sure that the smoke detectors are working and keep a fire extinguisher available not more than 10 feet from the stove.
- Before you start your holiday cooking, make sure that the oven and stove are clean.
- If a person is not helping with the food, then do not let them in the kitchen. Too many people in the kitchen can cause accidents, especially with children, so it is best to just not let anyone in the kitchen unless they are cooking.
- When cooking, do not wear dangling jewelry or clothing with loose sleeves.
- When cooking on the stove, cook on the back burners when possible and turn pot handles in.
- Never leave the kitchen while cooking. If you have to, leave someone watching the food or turn off the stove while you are gone.
- Keep your beautiful Thanksgiving decorations away from the sources of direct hear.
- Candles make for stunning decorations, but if you use candles make sure they are all our before going to bed or leaving the house. Also, make sure that the candles are placed in a sturdy fireproof candleholder and that they are placed up high so that guests can?t brush against them and children can?t reach them.
