Bremerton passed the first test in the football postseason by running and throwing past Renton High in a 26-0 victory Friday at Silverdale Stadium.
The Knights shut out Renton in the West Central District 2A playoffs and next up is Archbishop Murphy on the road to a state title shot.
Coach Nate Gillam said in an email, ?We are excited to have the opportunity to play at this level again. It has been a long time since Bremerton Football was competitive. The community has been very patient, and we appreciate their support.?
The game against Archbishop is scheduled for 7 tonight at Silverdale Stadium.
?Archbishop Murphy has a short but strong tradition of winning,? Gillam said. ?They pride themselves on a very good run game. Our defense has been very solid against the run so this will be a good test for them.? Our offense needs to continue to move the ball and score points.?
Against Renton Bremerton showed a potent offense, with 13 points in the first quarter, which carried them through to the half.
The Knights posted another 13 points in the second half.
Bremerton quarterback Mikey Lawrence was effective both passing and running. The defense was tough, but the road to the state final gets tougher now with each game.
Andrew Shadle will not be playing for Bremerton. According to Gillam, Shadle was, ?not granted an appeal by the WIAA on the call last week due to it being a ?judgement call.?
Bremerton enters the game with an 8-1 record.
